APRIL ON EARTH
It is a pleasant and vibrant month of the year, when various flowers bloom with a vast display of dazzling colors, and the earth is with a thriving scene. The gifted lady “Lin Phyllis Whei-Yin”, who was also a famous architect, had left a well-known poem, it reads, “You are love, warmth, hope, and you are the April on earth.”
For showing spring scenery, we adopted warm colors to set the tone for the appearance. The main stone tourmaline, under the contrast with fancy sapphires and rose gold, makes the whole piece of work look stronger and richer in color gradation. One thing worth mentioning here is that the petals around the tourmaline is not in full bloom, as if they are still continuously blooming, just as this beautiful season is in people’s expectation.
It is the most colorful gemstone. According to ancient Egyptian legend, tourmaline absorbed the diverse colors during the process of rising from the earth core, in which it was going through the rainbow, and then appears abundant colors. That is why it is called “rainbow gem”. The beauty of tourmaline has extremely been loved by oriental people, among them the most famous one was no more than the Empress Dowager Cixi, who particularly loved the pink tourmaline carved pieces. She had repeatedly sent people to California to collect ore.
Why is tourmaline special? Besides the wide range of colors, we can often see the distribution of different colors on a single crystal. Further more, with different viewing angles, the tourmaline’s color will change. In general, we see it longitudinally the tone of crystal will be deeper, and laterally will be lighter.
Most of the inclusions of tourmaline are visible. The stone with clear clarity is rare.
