Story Behind the Work

A daydream exists in the space between dream and reality, drifting between the conscious and the unconscious.

I often find myself physically present in one place while my thoughts wander into another dimension. In those moments, thoughts and scenes from everyday life begin to overlap and flow into one another. Sheets of paper on the desk fold themselves into forms, stand upon their edges, and slowly begin to walk. Waves surge from the book I have just been reading, rising from the story within its pages. A heavy elephant steps onto a paper airplane and takes flight, becoming as light as the wind.

For a fleeting moment, these seemingly impossible imaginings appear to come alive and move freely. Then, with a gentle tap on the shoulder, I am suddenly brought back to reality.

As children, we dream, play, imagine, and create. A piece of stationery, a sheet of paper, or a book can instantly become a utopia—a place where we escape from reality.

As adults, we can only occasionally catch a glimpse of that wandering fantasy within the ordinary rhythm of everyday life.
