Light in Motion

Light is one of the universe’s most weightless phenomena, yet it carries some of humanity’s most profound imaginings of the world.

From the moment it comes into being, light travels through the universe at extraordinary speed, leaving invisible traces across time and space. It carries energy as particles, while also oscillating and intersecting as waves. Different frequencies unfold into different colors, passing through our eyes to shape the contours of the world within perception and consciousness. What we see, then, is also a world continually reached by light, experienced through it, and reconstructed by our minds.

Through forms that extend, rotate, converge, and bloom, the sculpture transforms intangible light into a movement that can be seen and contemplated. Its form appears like a beam of light traveling through space, or energy leaping, dispersing, and reconfiguring in an instant. Solid material is thus given a sense of weightless velocity, allowing a seemingly still object to embody an enduring force that moves ever forward.

Throughout the long history of human civilization, light has never been merely a natural phenomenon. It has represented hope at the first appearance of dawn, served as a symbol of the sacred in mythology and faith, and offered humanity its earliest guide as we looked to the stars and ventured into the unknown. With modern science opening the door to the quantum world, the wave-particle duality of light once again transformed our understanding of reality. From optoelectronics and semiconductor wafers to quantum computing, humanity has continued to transform this energy from the universe into possibilities that propel technological civilization forward.

The light within this work therefore comes not only from the distant universe, but also points toward a future yet to arrive. It continues to move between matter and energy, science and imagination, the known and the unknown—an ever-unfolding trajectory that carries us beyond the present, toward a more expansive world.
