Across both Eastern and Western traditions, purple has long been associated with nobility, prestige, and distinction.
According to legend, Laozi became disillusioned with the royal court of the Zhou dynasty and decided to leave his official post and travel westward. One morning, Yin Xi, the guardian of Hangu Pass, saw an extraordinary purple cloud appearing in the eastern sky and stretching across the horizon. Skilled in reading celestial signs, he foresaw the arrival of a sage. Before long, Laozi appeared, riding leisurely on a blue-green ox.
Recognizing Laozi as a wise and extraordinary figure, Yin Xi sincerely asked him to leave behind a work of wisdom before departing. Moved by his sincerity, Laozi composed the five-thousand-character Tao Te Ching before continuing on his journey. Since then, the image of purple clouds rising in the east has come to symbolize the arrival of auspiciousness and good fortune.
In Purple Cloud and Butterfly, a 6.60-carat kunzite forms the centerpiece, its soft and delicate purple hue evoking the luminous clouds of the legend. A graceful butterfly accompanies the purple radiance, bringing a sense of movement and lightness while expressing a beautiful wish for fortune, prosperity, and blessings to arrive in abundance.
