Red-crowned Crane

The unique birds, originated in East Asia, are beautiful in shape. They have been regarded as mounts of immortals since ancient times. In the Ming and Qing dynasties, they were used as the identification pattern of the official uniforms in the imperial courts.

The life of the red-crowned crane can last for 60 years long. The male and female follow each other for their whole lives. Therefore, they also have the meaning of longevity and loyalty in East Asian culture.

South Sea Pearl

South Sea Pearl is one of the seawater pearls, cultivated in Pinctada maxima oysters and mainly produced in Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar and Thailand. The silver-white beads from Australia are the most famous, and the golden beads are mostly from Indonesia and the Philippines.

In all the oysters used for culturing seawater pearls, Pinctada maxima is the largest species. The diameter of South Sea Pearls may grow to 20 mm, but the sizes from 10 to 13 mm are the most common in the market. Normally, the Pinctada maxima oysters cannot be first seeded until they grow to three to four years, and only one bead can be implanted at a time. Each breeding period is two to three years. During the process, they must be free from the virus, changes of water temperature, and typhoon invasion. Only a very few oysters can survive three times’ nucleation. Therefore, each of the South Sea Pearls is hard to come by and is very precious. The size more than 14 mm is rare and worth a lot.
