The gyrfalcon is a powerful bird of prey associated with the northern regions of China, particularly Heilongjiang and Jilin. Revered as a prized hunting falcon since ancient times, it has also held a significant place in Manchu culture, where it has been regarded as a symbol of courage and wisdom.

The Compendium of Materia Medica describes the finest falcons from Liaodong as Haidongqing, or “Sea Eastern Blue.” The Qing Emperor Kangxi was likewise captivated by the bird’s powerful and majestic presence, writing of it as the most distinguished among birds.

For this men’s ring, designer Arista Lee created a bold, substantial silhouette and delicately carved abstract forms inspired by the beak and talons of the raptor into the band. The resulting lines reveal a balance of strength and elegance. The combination of tanzanite and the imagery of the gyrfalcon also carries a subtle auspicious meaning: achieving success in one’s endeavors and leaving a lasting legacy.

In 1967, an unusually blue gemstone was discovered in Tanzania, introducing a striking new gem to the world. Named after its country of origin, Tanzania, tanzanite remains one of the world’s most distinctive blue gemstones and is unique in having a single known commercial source: Tanzania.

Its appeal lies not only in its rich blue hues with violet undertones, but also in its pronounced pleochroism. Viewed from different directions, the same gemstone can reveal distinctly different colors, creating a mesmerizing and ever-changing appearance.
