The vast, surging movement of water evokes a sense of grandeur, power, and unstoppable momentum. In his celebrated poem Nian Nu Jiao, the Northern Song poet Su Dongpo famously wrote of the great river flowing eastward, sweeping away generations of heroes. Centuries later, the poem remains one of China’s most enduring literary classics.

Inspired by this majestic imagery, designer Arista Lee arranged layers of undulating waves along both sides of the ring. Above the band, two powerful currents appear to converge, lifting the sapphire at the center and making it the visual focus. Their meeting creates a sense of surging movement and crashing waves, while scattered diamonds evoke droplets of water suspended in the air. As they catch the sunlight, flashes of spectral color bring the composition vividly to life, capturing both the power and vitality of the waves.

Sapphire

Sapphire is perhaps the world’s best-known and most beloved blue gemstone. Its deep, mysterious color has long held a captivating allure, drawing the eye with an almost hypnotic intensity.

The blue color of sapphire is primarily associated with iron and titanium. Higher iron content generally produces deeper tones, while excessive iron can reduce brightness and obscure the stone’s color. Most sapphires undergo some form of treatment, with heat treatment being the most common method used to improve color.

An unheated sapphire displaying a rich, saturated blue together with broad, vivid light reflection is therefore exceptionally rare and regarded as a highly desirable material for fine jewelry.
